End of the War
First of all, the Germans were quickly running out of supplies, soldiers, and support for the war. With the joining of the U.S. for the Allies, there was really no way the Germans could win. The countries signed an armistice on November 11th, 1918. This later formed into the Treaty of Versailles which ended the war. Just about every country that was involved in the war was involved in the Paris Peace Conference. Topics such as the outlaw of alliances, new countries, freedom of seas and trade, disarmament, general peace between countries, the League of Nations, and the return of some territories were discussed at the conference.
Peace Treaties
The peace treaties brought forth temporary peace between the countries. They helped to form the League of Nations. New countries were formed and new territories were formed. In long term, they did nothing to actually solve the problems that started WWI and eventually led to the second World War.
Map of Europe After the War
- Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia-brand new countries that were formed
- Poland was revived
- Baltic Republics- Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania asserted independence
- Romania doubled in size
Results in the Middle East
The Middle East was completely divided up between European powers. Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine were all new territories formed because of this. Mandates decided who got which parts of the Middle East, French or British. However, Arab revolts rose up almost right after the war.
